Zi Wei Dou Shu is a complex way of predicting the future using many stars, where each star stands for a celestial body from different star groups in the sky. Astrologers noticed that one star remained almost still while the others moved around it. This star is called the ‘Emperor star’ (紫微星), similar to the North Star in the West. Although this star in Zi Wei Dou Shu is based on a real star, the other “stars” in the system represent the recurring nature of time and don’t always correspond to actual stars. This method comes from thousands of years of careful study of the sky by ancient Chinese astronomers. It mixes the ideas of Yin Yang, the Five Elements, and the Eight Trigrams into one approach. Like other astrology systems, Zi Wei Dou Shu predicts different parts of a person’s life, but it goes further by finding the main reasons, the areas affected, and outside influences on specific life events.
